Community Projects

Community work is my passion and I have been involved in many community based projects, both personal projects and in collaboration with other organisations.

Anchor Project

The Anchor Project is a day centre for people with mental health problems in Falmouth, Cornwall. In 2005 as a part of my degree I ran a music group at the centre during which I enabled the members to write, perform, record and produce a fund-raising album which we launched at a concert at the Gylly Beach Cafe, featuring performances from the members themselves and local bands. The CD raised £400 towards day trips for the members of the Anchor Project.

Richmond House

After the success of the Anchor Project I was invited to run a similar group at Richmond House, a sister project in Penzance. As well as running another music group, I also recorded the poems of the creative writing group and composed music to go along with some the performances, which were put together on an album. During my MA I was able to create an animation for one of the pieces which can be seen below:

Fresh Sources

As a part of my MA I am researching into the use of open source software, networking and digital technologies and convergence culture as a means of broadening participation in community radio. This was entail a community project based at the Source FM in Falmouth. For more details of this project please see Fresh Sources.
